New Film release
Article by: Sheba Kamisri
Sixteen Rounds by filmmaker Loukman Ali was released on September 16, 2021, and is already a critically acclaimed film. It’s filled with suspense, cheating suspicions, revenge tactics, and much more. With only 37 Minutes Loukman Ali captures the viewers’ attention through brilliant storytelling techniques, overall film, sound, and music production to name a few. The way this short film is written leaves viewers, at the edge of their seats, wondering if there will be a part two.
Loukman Ali’s talent shows just some of the talent that has been shunned in Uganda due to the lack of the proper support needed to share homegrown talent. This short film alone cost close to $16,000 without paying staff the appropriate fees, according to Mr. Ali. Furthermore, the lack of adequate policies, local media, and consumption support continually hinder the growth of the Ugandan film industry. YouTube and social media continue to be platforms where local filmmakers share their work despite low local support platforms. Andrew Kagwa, an arts and culture journalist with The Daily Monitor notes, local content consumption has long been an issue due to the lack of consistency, quality, funding, and appropriate platforms that showcase local talent.
Through the diligence and production of Loukman Ali’s films thus far with releases such as Blind Date and Sixteen Rounds; it is clear filmmakers who are serious about the film industry need to exercise the practice of investing in themselves, patience, and the ability to network, build relationships, and network across. Mr. Ali attributes a majority of his success to this. Sixteen Rounds leaves viewers wanting more by Loukman Ali. The narrative of the film industry in Uganda is changing due to Loukman Ali’s high-quality productions.
